Matthew Heatley

Head of Service

Matthew brings more than 25 years of children’s social care experience to Innovate Services.

Currently managing and supporting several of Innovate CYPS’ social work project teams working in several local authorities, Matthew draws on a wealth of knowledge within children’s social care to guide the team.

Matthew’s experience spans child protection, children in care, care leavers, adoption, fostering, youth offending, and children with disabilities; from social care management through to Head of Service.

An inspiring service manager

No stranger to completing full-service reviews and preparing local authorities for an Ofsted visit, he is an innovative and inspiring manager who knows exactly how to nurture teams to work to the best of their abilities.

Joining Innovate CYPS in July 2019 was an easy decision for Matthew. Having previously worked with another member of our team, he immediately felt a professional alignment with the company values and vision. Most importantly, he knew he would be able to make a positive contribution to the service.

On a daily basis, Matthew ensures that all statutory duties for the Innovate CYPS teams he manages are met and that services are effective, child-focused and deliver positive change for children and young people. He contributes specialist knowledge to policies, procedures and quality of practice for all elements of each project and within Innovate Services as a whole.

Reflective approach to project management

Reflective in his approach to project management, he is constantly developing new care pathways. An example of this is with the Children with Disabilities offer he has developed, where he works directly with local authorities to reframe their local offering and reduce social services costs.

Motivated to inspire change

When asked why he works in children’s social care, his response is always “I enjoy the variety and the rewards that working with children and young people brings. No day is the same, which helps me remain alert and provides motivation to continue”.

Matthew also enjoys nothing more than spending time with his family, delving into history, and the fantasy worlds of Tolkien.
