Innovate shortlisted for national award

We are thrilled to announce that we have been shortlisted for ‘The Social Work Award’ at The Children & Young People Now Awards 2019! The CYP Now Awards highlight the very best practice in work with children, young people and families.

Innovate Services have been shortlisted for this award following our team’s work with The London Borough of Enfield to improve their Edge of Care service.

The Innovate CYPS Edge of Care multidisciplinary programme prevents children and young people from entering care. It empowers individuals and communities to take control, build empathy and forge better relationships. Working with the local authority, the programme vastly improves outcomes for children and families through a preventative rather than reactive service. It keeps families together and children safe.

Since July 2018, the programme has been supporting two cohorts of 40 children and their families, identified by The London Borough of Enfield as being at high risk of entering statutory care.

The programme is on target to keep 90% of those children out of care 18 months following the start of the programme.  As of 24 June 2019, 20 cases from Cohort 1 have been closed to the local authority and 100% of the children and young people are now in education or employment.

It is the last resort for a local authority to take a child into care. Not only does it cause distress to the child and their family, it is also very costly for the local authority.

Innovate CYPS did not want to simply delay children entering the care system. The aim is to deliver sustainable change, positively affecting the lives of children and their families to ensure they would never enter the care system.

The programme offers an environment where social workers meet their statutory obligations, whilst having the flexibility to directly engage with other professionals, services and community groups to empower families to make better life choices.

We are proud of the work we have achieved to date with The London Borough of Enfield and look forward to completing this programme and leaving a positive impact and sustainable improvements to their Edge of Care service.
